Scott Barry Kaufman

Scott Barry Kaufman has published multiple journal articles and book chapters relating to intelligence and creativity and is the editor of two forthcoming books.


Scott Barry Kaufman is currently completing his PhD in Cognitive Psychology at Yale University. He has conducted research on such topics as intelligence, creativity, gifted education, and genius. In his research he tries to apply various perspectives, from philosophy, cognitive science, and evolutionary psychology, to further an understanding of human intelligence.

In addition to publishing numerous articles in professional journals he is the co-editor of two upcoming books: Psychology of Creative Writing (with James C. Kaufman) and The Cambridge Handbook of Intelligence (with Robert J. Sternberg), both currently under contract with Cambridge University Press. Scott's work has been covered in media outlets such as Men's Health and Psychology Today.

He holds a B.S. degree from Carnegie Mellon University, and Masters degrees from the University of Cambridge and Yale University. In addition to being a Gates Cambridge Scholar, he is also the recipient of the 2008 Frank X. Barron student award from Division 10 of the American Psychological Association for his research on the Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity, and the Arts. When he's not working on his dissertation, Scott enjoys singing, acting, and playing the cello. He's even been known to bust a few breakdancing moves.
