The Ultimate Alpha Female: Never Give Up!

Many of us wonder, why would Hillary Clinton continue to compete for what seems to be a lost cause? Ambition? Power? Or maybe a true desire to help others? Either way, her self-motivation scores are the highest: it is tough to go on when most of the people around you say the race is over.

As I watched Senator Clinton give her speech at the University of Miami yesterday, I reflected on her driven force to lead beyond others' harsh comments. It is tough to keep a smiling face when you feel ridiculed or when you just plainly feel ignored. It is extremely challenging to continue to pursue your dream while many others tell you that you have lost the game or while others tell you that you will be the cause of irreparable damage to your team.

Her positive characteristics were evident during her speech: the always assertive Alpha Female, she was clear and concise, thoughtful and pragmatic. Her thought process flowed with ease and her ability to organize her message was clear, as she addressed global and holistic issues and then narrowed them down with specifics. This is a strong characteristic that separates her from the other candidates. While her ability to motivate others in a room filled with fans was obvious, she avoided flirting with her followers with anything other than substance.

Food for thought: Why would a successful multimillionaire who could comfortably retire as she reaches sixty decide, instead, to invest in spite of debt and make herself available 24/7 in pursuit of the most stressful of jobs by becoming the leader of the greatest free nation?

Why?

a) She's not a multi-millionaire. He is, and she doesn't want to be controlled by him.

b) She's disoriented, living in a bubble of praise and support.

c) She doesn't know what loss feels like, never having experienced rejection herself on this scale. And is taking time to come to terms with it.

d) Winding down slowly looks better then a clean withdrawal so she can say she 'lost on a points decision', rather than 'threw in the towel'. It also enables her to say she kept her word that she'd stick it through to the end.

Her actions now are not driven by gender even if they have been heretofore.

reply to anon:

a) They're a family, his money is her money. Control? Bill appears to be completely supporting his wife in her campaign, and that doesn't usually signal a woman compelled to leave the control of a man.

b) She's disoriented? From my point of view, I know of at least one person who harbors an irrational criticism of a presidential candidate.

c) You do not know her troubles or what she has gone through, and even if you read a comprehensive biography could not possibly understand what goes on inside her. From my viewpoint, I have tremendous respect for her perseverance in face of the harsh spotlight of politics, an experience that most people do not have.

d) Quite frankly, the last sentence in this paragraph is the only comment that I could possibly agree with. Most cultures value "persevering in face of insurmountable odds" as a strength, not lack of character, and it appears that even her competitor's campaign belatedly agrees with that.

Quite frankly, it doesn't matter what drives her, the fact that she is doing what she is doing will inspire my daughter.

Clinton as the Ultimate Alpha Female

I find the last sentence of the previous responder dead-on. We are lucky in that no matter whether Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama end up being the front runners in the race for the White House, millions of traditionally disenfranchised constituents and their families will find inspirational role models.

As to the issue of Sen. Clinton being the ultimate Alpha Female, I agree with Dr. CorĂ¡: she leads the pack, she doesn't back down, she protects her territory fiercely, and rallies up those around her to achieve her goals.

She's power hungry, plain

She's power hungry, plain and simple. Has a long history of trusting the wrong men. Trusted George Bush, granted him "Authorization to Use Force" leading a nation to war, yet she didn't read the classified reports which would have given another perspective. She also trusted Bill to be faithful...she was a close associate in a law firm with treasonous Jonathon Pollard. Default feminist, in my opinion...

Well, my role model is Jesus

Well, my role model is Jesus Christ - and none of those you've mentioned come even close. Those christians who follow closely the biblical pattern for leading and interacting with others are role models indeed. (Robert E Lee and Stonewall Jackson come to mind).
