I can get kind of preachy, I know. Hopefully it amuses you, the reader, as much as it does me. I find it incredibly entertaining that at times I can be so unbearably pompous. Here's a little gem that gets across a number of my points with a much lighter touch.
Peaceful Warrior is a film based on the classic neo-spiritual novel by Dan Millman, The Way of the Peaceful Warrior. It is a wonderfully clear and concise distillation of some very complicated ideas such as presence, impermanence, living in the moment, service, humanity, authenticity and self-discovery. And Nick Nolte, as Dan's teacher Socrates, is flat out perfect.
So, I'm going to stop talking now, and just urge you to take some time to either read the book or watch the film.

Really good movie
I took your advice, got the movie, and just finished watching. It was absolutely amazing -- and I really liked the way in which they delivered the concepts. Like the part about the journey, where they Dan gets rev'ed up about the hike, and has a blast hiking up there -- only to see a rock.
I study a lot of Buddhist and Taoist texts, and this movie portrayed a lot of the basic teachings of both philosophies brilliantly.
Thanks for the recommendation.
