Well, okay, maybe it’s the power of readers to direct the press. Responding to an outpouring of letters, the editors of the Nation have restored the Frank W. Lewis cryptic crossword to its every-issue basis. The announcement appears in the current (July 21/28) number. “A wonderful instance of grassroots democracy” the squib reads. I’m proud to have been a voice in that movement.
